Summary of Animal Ordinances

Summary

The focus of Cedaredge Animal Control is to enforce the animal control ordinances put into place by the Town's Board of Trustees. These ordinances were designed and implemented for the comfort and safety of the citizens of Cedaredge. Animal Control is operated for the people of the community, not its animals, with exception to a few ordinances that apply to animal abuse and/or neglect. A brief overview of what you may and may not do regarding your pets within the town limits are a follows:

- Cats and Dogs must have a current rabies vaccination and must be licensed on a yearly basis. Each year’s license expires on December 31st and has to be renewed by February 1st. Once your pet is licensed for the first time, you will receive a reminder notice in the mail.

- The Town of Cedaredge has a leash law. Dogs are not allowed to run loose within the town limits. They must be on a leash , unless they are on your property. Pets must be on a leash at the Town Park. Keep it on a leash or leave it at home. The park is in place for the enjoyment of all the town citizens. It is amazing how quickly one or two unruly dogs can ruin that experience for everyone. Remember, if you dog uses the park as its bathroom, you are required, by law, to clean up after it.

Cats are allowed to go wherever they please. Cedaredge does not have a leash law for cats.v Dogs are not allowed to bark to the point of disturbing the neighbors. They are allowed to bark when someone walks by or approaches your home and when they see another animal. The “Barking Dog” ordinance is designed to give relief to your neighbors if your dog is one that barks just to fill long hours of boredom when it’s left outside, unattended, for hours on end.
